USCIS Launches Citizenship Public Education and Awareness Initiative

WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Alejandro Mayorkas announced the launch of a federal initiative to raise awareness about the rights, responsibilities and importance of U.S. citizenship. The Citizenship Public Education and Awareness Initiative will provide new opportunities for immigrants to learn about USCIS’s free citizenship education resources available to eligible lawful permanent residents (LPRs) and immigrant-serving organizations.

USCIS Releases Expanded Civics and Citizenship Toolkit

A revised edition of the Civics and Citizenship Toolkit is now available. The Toolkit contains a selection of civics and naturalization-focused educational materials to help organizations begin or enhance a collection of resources for immigrants.

As part of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2010 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act (Public Law 111-83), Congress provided $11 million to enhance U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS’s) immigrant integration initiatives.
