Other Ways to Obtain a Green Card
Most Green Cards are obtained through employment, investment, a family member’s petition, the Diversity Visa program, and a refugee/political asylum application. However, there are other ways to get a Green Card. These Green Cards are limited to individuals meeting particular qualifications and/or applying during certain time frames.

- Legal Immigration Family Equity (LIFE) Act
- Person Born to Foreign Diplomat in United States
- Registry
- Section 13 (Diplomat)
- Victim of Criminal Activity (U Nonimmigrant)
- Victim of Trafficking (T Nonimmigrant)
Individuals in the following “Special Categories of Jobs” can apply for Green Cards:
- Afghan/Iraqi Translator
- Broadcaster
- International Organization Employee
- Iraqi Who Assisted the U.S. Government
- NATO-6 Nonimmigrant
- Panama Canal Employee
- Physician National Interest Waiver
- Religious Worker
Individuals in the following “Special Categories of Family” can apply for Green Cards:
- Battered Spouse or Child (VAWA)
- K Nonimmigrant (includes fiancé(e))
- V Nonimmigrant
- Widow(er)
Those under the Nicaraguan and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) can also obtain a Green Card.
